When you are looking for new horizons, you have to solve many questions and problems. To ease your preparations, we have collected some of the questions which are asked frequently.

Language |
We know, that not all schools in your home countries offer German as a foreign language. However we expect you to start learning German immediately after you have been informed, that you will spend your exchange year with us in Germany. So you have a basic knowledge about the language when you arrive. Speaking the language is a necessary means for your integration. Though many people in Germany might speak a foreign language, you cannot constantly expect that they communicate in your mother tongue. After being with us, your Host Club and Parents will help to improve your abilities, however it stays up to you to learn. |
Arrival |
German schools break for only six weeks in summer. You should arrive about one week before schools starts back. Find the arrival dates at the bottom of page 3. If you have to deviate from these dates, do not purchase an airplane ticket without approval by your hosting German Distric |

Insurance |
All Inbound students have to buy a Health, Accident and Liability Insurance with the German Company Hanse-Merkur. |
|
Age |
To apply for the exchange to Germany you have to be between 16 and 18 years of age at the begin of your exchange year (1 August).
|
|
Visa |
To come to Germany for your exchange year you have to have a passport and a valid visa. No other situations are possible, please do not try to enter Germany without a visa or with a tourist visa. You have to apply for your visa at the German Consulate in your home country. The issue of a visa takes time, apply latest immediately after you have received your completed Guarantee Form.
Exempt from this regulation are the citizens of the following countries: European Union, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, United States of America. Citizens of these countries do not need a visa to enter Germany for the exchange year. |

In your application you have accepted the rules for the exchange year, which will also be discussed during your Outbound Orientation at home and the Inbound Orientation Briefing of your Host District. | |
